TVPaint (Paperless animation)

I've been using TvPaint for a few months now and finally purchased a copy for use in production around October.
Not only is TvPaint the best, paperless animation software but the company and it's online community are super active and approachable.
Especially Elodie and Fabrice, who have both been very helpful with some of my questions, inquiries etc.
My primary use is on the Asus Ep121 slate Pc Tablet. I use an Axiotron Studio Pen by Wacom
and a 12 dollar bluetooth keyboard that is as light as a pack of matches and about the size of an iphone. Mainly for some hotkeys and functions that would be a pain to use on the virtual keyboard. Aside from using it for production, I sketch out little animation tests that keep me limber and offer new or improved insight into timing, spacing, etc that I can apply to later projects, especially when I work in Maya.

And this little quote pretty much sums it up. It's classical animation moved into the digital realm.

It's important to note that, unlike Flash, TVPaint has no "smart" functions that "animates" for you. There's no automatic inbetweening or auto-correction/smoothing of lines. No actions, motion-clips or libraries.

Usually these cheap, plastic skulls are inaccurate and thrown together. I was happy to find a decent, 5 dollar skull at Target. It's not perfect but hell, it's a glow in the dark Halloween ornament.

The animations were created for Bear Facts Entertainment, representing the Florida Hospital to be used in the kids area of the new patient facility in Celebration, FL.

so i finally got my Asus and i could not be happier. I will post more in the coming weeks showing how Zbrush, Maya, Flipbook and PAP respond to little projects. And I'll dive in to any tweaks needed to make this the best digital sketchbook/PC in your arsenal.

For now, here is a little doodle created during a meeting this morning.

Dan Pingston introduced the EP121 tablet to me and I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since that day. Animation and Sketching on the go with a Wacom Digitizer, line weight and also taking advantage of Zsketch, etc. whoo!

Finally! FINALLY!!!!

Animation Desk for Ipad has "before and After" onion skinning.

This animation app is the best in my book for pencil response and execution but up until now I hated the fact that the onion skinning only showed the previous frame, making planning an animation harder than it needed to be.

I started working on a new character. Low rez only at the moment. I'm trying to build up my speed to produce rigged character so I can animate them for UDK and come back to the sculpt later.

3d Coat and Frank Makowski

So after my second character was created, I realized that my topology on Frank Makowski's low cage was horribly wrong and too blame for the majority of my terrible deformations.

So, Chops turned me on to 3d Coat yesterday and I decided to use Frank as a testing ground to learn the retopo tools. And they're awesome!

I'm posting videos here as I progress. They are super speed up through Screenflow so they're less of a tutorial and more of a, "Look how I did it" sort of thing. Towards the end I'll transfer the texture from the old Frank to the new mesh, bind and start on the new animation. :-)

More to come when I'm finished.
